Racial Harmony Day is a celebrated in schools all over Singapore on 21st July. This encourages children to learn the importance of cultural values, of their own culture as well as others.
As they grow older the practice of cultural interaction is not given quite the same significance in their immediate environments and instead, they are exposed to social media which portrays only ‘cultural appropriation’- shining a negative light on cultural interaction
The showcase, titled Cltrfck, is part of a speculative attempt that aims to bring back the positive aspects of inter-cultural exchange amongst the youth of Singapore, creating a clear distinction between cultural appropriation and cultural misappropriation.
